Ahsoka: Rosario Dawson Has Been Chosen by a Fan to Play the Star Wars Hero!

It’s one of the most anticipated Star Wars series: Star Wars: Ahsoka, a fiction centered around Ahsoka Tano, the famous Jedi and former Padawan of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), is coming to Disney+ very soon.

Produced by Dave Fillon and Jon Favreau, the live-action Star Wars: Ahsoka series takes place several years after the events of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. After the fall of the Empire, former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano investigates a hidden threat that could upset the fragile balance of a still vulnerable galaxy…

American actress Ashley Eckstein voices the animated version of this very popular character, who first appeared in the animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars, then appeared in the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.

But since then, Star Wars fans have been treated to a live-action version of Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. He then appears in the spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett. And it’s in his own series that Rosario Dawson brings his character to life in a solo adventure today.

Rosario Dawson is chosen thanks to Star Wars fans!

But how come Rosario Dawson, known for his roles in Sin City, Death Boulevard and Daredevil, was chosen by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau to lend his qualities to the famous Jedi Knight Togruta? Thanks to the fans!

It really all started in 2017 with a fan tweet (which is no longer available) asking Youtuber and graphic designer @BossLogic to create concept art for Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano. The actor quoted this tweet while commenting “‘absolutely! Yes, thank you!’ and ‘#AhsokaLives'”. Later, @BossLogic did some Rosario Dawson fan art as a character. And this creation was seen by people working at Lucasfilm.

These people then sent the visuals to Dave Filoni, who hadn’t yet worked on the Dean Jarrin (Pedro Pascal)-centric series, but the idea still lingered in his mind.

Years later, Rosario Dawson was granted a surreal interview with the creators of The Mandalorian, which he told AlloCiné when we caught up with him at the Star Wars Celebration in London:

“I remember when I was talking to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni and they offered me the role, we were on Skype. I was on the set of Briarpatch in New Mexico and the connection kept dropping. But I could see Devi’s paintings. Made of me as plastered on Ahsoka’s walls.

And he was like, “I saw a tweet from a fan on social media and you retweeted it and it stuck in my mind. And we’re thinking about The Mandalorian coming out in Season 2, and I’ve always wanted to do a live-action adaptation of that character, and I think you can do it. It stuck in my head and I drew you like this.”

The actor then told us that he tried to stay calm and didn’t seem too upset, while asking to use the phone because the internet was down. Ever since that day, Rosario Dawson has been extremely grateful to have landed the role and been able to portray this iconic character from the Star Wars universe:

“Dave saw my work and he liked what I was doing outside and he felt that I had what the character needed and not only that I looked like him, but that I was also his inspiration. So that was huge, but it was also. A huge responsibility . I knew that yes, even after one episode with other possibilities, it wasn’t going to be easy. She’s not an easy character to play. So there was a lot at the same time. It was a big challenge, but one that I’m very grateful for.”

Star Wars fans will soon be able to see the full potential of Ahsoka Tano’s talents in her adventure against Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) with the help of her friends Ezra Bridger, the camp Eman Esfand, the Mandalorian Sabine Wren, played by Natasha. Liu Bordizzo and Twi’lek Hera Syndulla, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
