The Chamber approves the basic text of the fiscal framework

The Chamber of Deputies approved on Tuesday the main text of the new fiscal framework which discards a change introduced by the Senate that would allow the Executive to avoid cuts to the 2024 budget estimated at up to 40 billion reais.

The basic text, however, maintains a modification promoted by the senators which excludes Fundeb and the Constitutional Fund of the Federal District from the calculation of expenses.

Approved with 379 votes in favor and 64 against, the text can still be modified by amendments to be voted on separately.

The proposal had already been approved by the deputies in an initial analysis, it was sent to the Senate – which, at the request of the government, included the modification of the period for calculating inflation by offering the government the tax margin – and is now underway the final vote of the Chamber, which will give the last word on the matter.
