In just a few days, the Mask Girl series found itself in the top 10 most watched titles on the platform (notably ahead of Painkiller and L’Elu) right now, and that’s without any promotion. Proof that Netflix subscribers are fans of South Korean productions and that they want more.

This new K-drama immerses us in the daily life of Kim Mom (Lee Han-byul), a young woman who is rejected because she doesn’t fit into society’s dictated beauty laws. The one who still loves to be adored has created an alter ego: Masked Girl, a rather soft-spoken camera girl who shakes her hips in front of her fans. If she attracts men on the Internet, in real life our heroine is in love with her boss, who prefers a more beautiful colleague. When she discovers the two are having an affair, Kim Mo Mi makes a decision that will change her life.

Mask Girl is a series that surprises by taking an unexpected direction. The first black comedy, episode 2 takes a more violent and bloody turn. Each episode is told from a character’s point of view (as the titles indicate) to better illustrate society’s excesses and dictates of beauty. And perhaps this mix of genres divides subscribers.
