The federal capital on Wednesday broke the 2023 heat record and recorded the third highest temperature in August since 1962
The heat wave that swept over Brazil in the third week of August 2023 further increased temperatures in the Midwest. On Wednesday 23, the capitals Brasilia, Goiânia and Cuiabá set new heat records for 2023.

New heat record for 2023 in Brasilia
On Wednesday, August 23, the National Institute of Meteorology recorded a temperature of 32.7°C in Brasilia. It was the highest temperature of the year 2023 so far. The previous record was 31.1C on February 15.
The temperature of 32.7°C was 5.3°C higher than the normal August average maximum temperature in Brasilia, which is 27.4°C.
Climatempo forecast is that the temperature this Thursday, 24, will reach the threshold of 33°C in Brasilia, and a new record could occur for the year 2023 and even a historical record for August.
There is chance of rain showers Sunday and Monday 28 August.
Third highest temperature in August since 1962
Temperatures around 32°C do not occur frequently in Brasilia. Before this Wednesday, the last time the heat reached this point was in 2017, but only in 1 day, with a threshold of 32.1°C on 08/20/2017.
In 2016, when the strongest El Niño on record occurred, Brasilia had four out of 32 days in August, but the maximum for the month was 32.4C. On August 27, 2015, the heat in the federal capital reached 32.6°C.
A search of the National Institute of Meteorology database revealed that the temperature recorded on 08/23/2023 was the third highest on an August day in Brasilia since 1962
