HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us video game franchise was quickly renewed for a second season after a critically acclaimed first season. Game director Neil Druckman and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin created the series, which received 24 Emmy nominations and is still one of HBO’s most-watched series.
Even if nothing is official from the HBO side just yet, the showrunners are planning at least two additional seasons to fully accommodate The Last of Us Part II, whose narrative is twice as long as the previous game. It served as the main material of the first season.
But what about possible spin-offs? Is it possible? In a new interview transferAccording to the WGA Guide and through his agent, Craig Mazzini, they have not yet had any discussions about it, but are open to any eventuality:
“We haven’t talked about it specifically because we’re so focused on the main narrative. I’m not opposed to the idea of other series that could be inspired by these characters or this universe.
I don’t know how much more Last of Us I could do personally. This series is so important that I’m burning one of the precious decades I have left to tell this story.
But in principle, I have no problem with it. And I’m sure Neil will be interested too. If it made any sense, I don’t see why we wouldn’t. My great hope is that if something like this happens, it’s done with the same care, respect, and love that we do with this series right now.“.

Season 1 only scratched the surface of the massive universe of the video game franchise that will continue when the series returns for a second season. As far as spin-off avenues go, the series could take a number of directions, and the series has hinted at those possibilities before.
The third episode of the first season diverged significantly from the game’s plot, introducing two supporting characters, resulting in one of the most famous television episodes in recent history.
Likewise, the series has taken creative liberties at other times, from the second episode to the Cordyceps outbreak and the inclusion of new characters outside of the games, such as Melanie Lynskey.
In any case, after the double strike, the show’s second season will begin production in Vancouver early next year.
