Military establishments have prepared their own reports; intelligence messages led to ineffective readiness

The senior leaders of the Brazilian Army were aware, through their own sources, of the gravity of the crisis that erupted in Brasilia on January 7 of this year, the day before the coup attacks against the headquarters of the Three Powers in the federal capital. The information comes from Folha de S. Paulo.

Until then, it was public knowledge that the alerts had been generated by Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency), under the jurisdiction of the GSI (Institutional Security Office), the day after the attempt by the Bolsonarists to interfere in the inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

These reports have been shared with several agencies, including the CIE (Center for Army Intelligence). However, the military establishment prepared its own reports, which were received informally by its senior leaders, at least on Saturday (January 7), which preceded the attacks.

The article had access to some of these messages, which were transmitted through WhatsApp and not through official documents. This led the CIE to reply to the CPMI on 8 January that it had no report on the events that took place in the field in front of the Army Command, one of the epicenters of the crisis.

Those who have received these messages confirm that there has been some indecision in adopting measures, even in the belief that it would be up to the GSI to request a reinforcement of troops from the CMP (Military Command of the Plateau), according to the modalities established structure. As specified by the January newspaper, this procedure was not carried out.

Nonetheless, an unofficial mobilization was called, as witnesses present during the crisis reported.

However, this action did not have the expected success: during the coup demonstrations of 15 November, after the defeat of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) by Lula, 110 soldiers were deployed at Planalto, while the 36 mobilized on 8 January arrived at the headquarters. of the Executive when the riots were already underway.

As further investigations revealed, there was no effective collaboration with the local security forces and it was decided to allow the demonstrators returning from the Esplanada dos Ministérios to return to the encampment near the headquarters, where they were protected for a Night. also with the support of two armored vehicles.
