From Riverdale, a comic book series with several characters, the most iconic of which is Archie. Surrounded by his friends Jughead, Betty and Veronica, the young high school student lives a life of crazy and sometimes supernatural adventures.
Their stories will be adapted several times, in live action but also in an animated version – Archie mysteries and company – in which the characters are also members of the musical group, The Archies. It is also one of the first fictional bands in music history. Between 1968 and 1971, they would release several titles that would become hits for some, such as “Sugar Sugar” (featuring Ron Dante).
To differentiate itself from Riverdale (a CW production), which just ended after 7 seasons, Netflix has worked on a completely different version of the comic called The Archies (like a band name, are you following?). It is a musical comedy directed by Zoya Akhtar and set in 60’s India. The film features characters from the Archie comic universe, including four of our high school students.
The platform released the first rock ‘n’ roll and ultra-rhythmic trailer (player above) during last June’s TUDUM event, right after the main cast takes the stage to explain what we imagine to be the title track. movie. In these pictures, we acknowledge one of the world’s most iconic places, Pop Tate’s Restaurant (and its mouth-watering milkshakes).
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for The Archies, but Archie, Betty, Veronica and more should be back on our screens before the end of the year (November?). In other words, we won’t finish them.
