Killer Mamonas – The impossible does not exist finally won, on Friday (25th), its first teaser. The biopic, which will show the rise of one of the most extraordinary bands in the Brazilian music scene, will have its premiere in theaters on January 18th.
Directed by Edson Spinello, Killer Mamonas – The impossible does not exist will show the background, the path to the top and the short period of resounding success of five guys from Guarulhos who sang and reveled in comedy and alternative rock, mixed with influences of popular genres.
In the late 1990s, the band released a single album, which reached the mark of over 3 million copies sold in Brazil. With this feat they won the Diamond Disc in 1995, the year the band was founded. Of the songs on the album, two were included in the top 10 most played songs in the country that same year: Vira-Vira and Pelados em Santos.
At the height of their career, a tragic plane crash in Serra da Cantareira in March 1996 claimed the lives of all the members, causing national unrest. The band was one of the pioneers of the comic rock genre in Brazil and, even after 27 years, continues to be remembered by fans, as well as influencing the national music scene.
According to the Brazilian Association of Music and Arts (Abramus), Mamonas Assassinas single album is among the best-selling of all time in Brazil.
