After telling the story of a locust invasion in La Nuée in 2021, director Just Philippot is back with a new fantasy drama: Acid.
The filmmaker still explores the issue of the countryside, but also the ecological disaster and the climate disaster, while a young woman faces a kind of apocalypse that will befall France. A pre-collapse taste that is increasingly leading to movies and TV series.
The story tells about 15-year-old Selma. The teenager grew up between two separated parents, Mikal and Elisha. Acid and destructive rain clouds descend on France. In a world that is about to sink, this broken family must come together to overcome this climatic disaster and try to escape it.
Note that Aide is primarily a short film that Just Philippot made 5 years ago. In 2013, the director moved from Paris to tour, where he did a lot of image education with a young audience. At the same time, the artist developed several completely different projects, of which Gildas has something to say, an intimate documentary about his multitalented brother.
Strengthening this relationship with the cultural institutions of the Val de Loire region, Just joined the Genre Cinema Residency, partially funded by Ciclic, the film agency in the Center region. It was there that he wrote the short film Acid. “With a winning effect or waiting for luck, I arrived at a time when French cinema, no doubt inspired by the success of serials and the upheaval associated with the arrival of platforms, was looking for new creations, more hybrid, more equal to everything. audience types”The director explains.
Thanks to the success of this short film, Just Philippot moved on to a feature film with La Nuée, a project also from the same residency. “I made this first film with the desire to distance myself as much as possible from American cinema, to offer a unique climate that can transport the audience to a troubled, unstable, but still extremely realistic danger zone.
Thanks to the company Bonne Pioche Cinéma, the director was then able to develop the feature film Acid in parallel. “La Nuée, my first feature film, was a great first experience and allowed me to develop new directorial ambitions for Acid.”
Headlining the feature film alongside Letizia Dosch and Patience in Munich, Guillaume Canet announced “Very powerful movie” Last May, on his Instagram account, when the work was selected for the Séance de Minuit in Cannes. “I loved acting in this film, which is truly sublime, powerful, relevant and important. Made by a great filmmaker!”The actor emphasized.
Acid will hit theaters on September 20.
