A group of around 30 Flamengo fans protested outside the venue

The situation on and off the Flamengo pitch is still very complicated. A group of around 30 fans protested in front of the venue where 28-year-old Gabigol’s birthday party will be held on Tuesday night, in Itanhangá, in west Rio de Janeiro.

The event started at 8pm and the group of fans arrived around 9pm. The Rossoneri carried critical banners both for Gabigol’s celebration and for the striker. A banner reading “Party is the Fuck” was spread out in front of the club. President Rodolfo Landim and Vice President Marcos Braz were also harassed by the group. The Military Police were called to ensure safety.

The recent elimination of Libertadores together with the gap of 15 points for leaders Botafogo in the Brazilian championship, the loss of titles in the first half (Carioca, Mundial and Supercopa do Brasil and Sudamericana), and with the consequent bad performances have meant that the club goes into crisis.

However, Flamengo wants to extend the link with Gabigol until 2029. Rubro-Negro is negotiating with the attacker’s representatives to renew the contract for another five years, which expires in December 2024.
