It took three years for Kerry James and Leila Sy to write, shoot and release Banlieusards 2. In 2019, the first film was a great success in France and around the world.
The dedicated rapper told us the story of a sibling whose members each started in different ways: one a law student, the other a notorious criminal, while the younger one was still searching for his direction.
These are the three characters we find in the Banlieusards 2 trailer. And they’ve all evolved since then. Dembe, who survived the shooting at the end of the first film, seems to have bounced back – even though his old demons are chasing him. Suleiman became a lawyer. As for Numuke, he seems to have followed the same path as his older brother.
The synopsis for this second installment and the images posted above suggest that this sequel will be much darker and more violent than the previous one: “The Traore brothers struggle to escape a daily life of betrayal, revenge and violence in the suburbs of Paris. Keep fighting for a better future.”
On the casting side, Kerry James, Jame Diangana and Bacary Diombera will return. Among the new faces of Banlieusards 2, we especially recognize Alessandra Sublette. With this role, the former presenter once again confirms his desire to switch to fiction.
The film will be released on Netflix on September 27.
