Three-time Academy Award winner James Cameron found himself in an embarrassing situation for a scene in The Terminator.
Usually the director is the one who controls the set, although in Hollywood things are sometimes different, especially when different producers invest millions of dollars in a film. This is what happened when James Cameron was making the first Terminator movie (1984) with Arnold Schwarzenegger and he cut a sci-fi scene because the financiers forced him to include his friends in it.
This was revealed by The Terminator producer (and screenwriter), Gale Anne Hurd, who recalled on X (ex Twitter) that James Cameron was forced to cut a scene that showed more context on Cyberdyne Systems, the technology company responsible for Skynet and how they appropriated the T-800’s technology chips.
“Terminator stalwart John Daly of Hemdale Films had a production deal with Orion Pictures, but hadn’t had any success yet (that changed with our film and Platoon),” said Hurd, who was married to James Cameron 1985 to 1989. “They insisted we use financial friends and non-actors in this scene, which kind of ruined everything for us.” Check out her social media post:
