Flash | DC changes the hero canon with the return of the forgotten lost daughter

The heroine The Boom, forgotten by DC Comics, officially returns to the DC continuity and changes the official canon of The Flash

Since DC Comics ushered in the Infinite Frontier phase last year, the publisher’s main guideline is to expand the number of characters and worlds and consider all properties and parallel realities of its Multiverse – the opposite of that who did Crisis in Infinite Events. For example. And, as part of this overhaul, a long-forgotten daughter of the Flash line has returned to main continuity, to change the character’s official canon.

Judy Garrick, daughter of Jay and Joan Garrick, was known as The Boom and became the sidekick of her father, Flash also called Joel the Cyclone in Brazil, in his first adventures, in 1940. Because he was from the future, initially Jay did not know to be his own progeny, who likewise gained their powers by inhaling the fumes of “heavy water”.

The Boom has become so obscurely irrelevant with the arrival of The Silver Age of Comicswhich introduced Barry Allen and a new concept for DC’s speedster family, which ended up completely forgotten, not only by the publisher but by readers as well – there are many veteran Flash fans who don’t even know of his existence.

How will the forgotten daughter of The Flash return to DC continuity?

The reunion between father and daughter has already appeared this week in a preview Justice Society of America No. 6, which features the Justice Society meeting Stargirl’s Lost Children. The plot revolves around the heroes discussing the extent to which the villains’ manipulations of time streams have caused distortions in reality.

The Lost Children of Stargirl is a new DC project that connects old stories to the publisher’s current context. The publisher’s “apology” is a good one, stating that when Doctor Manhattan messed up the official timeline, as seen in Doomsday Clock, several elements were either skewed from reality or completely forgotten.

The children involved in this incident were kidnapped by a cosmic predator called Childminder and were only freed with Stargirl’s help. This created a team of WWII child helpers who are now making a comeback in the present day. And Judy Garrick is among the child heroes rescued, and retroactively, that is, as she’s always been a part of official continuity.

This is part of DC’s efforts in the New Golden Age project, which promises to revitalize long-forgotten properties in the publisher’s past. We’re very likely to see more details on Jay Garrick and The Boom’s reunion coming on Jay Garrick Flash, which is part of this program, from 17 October. Already Justice Society of America No. 6 will be out on newsstands this Tuesday (5).
