With Filipe Toledo and João Chianca already qualified for the Paris Olympics, Brazil can still count on a third surfer at the Olympics. In an interview with ‘ge’, Filipinho said he was determined to help Gabriel Medina secure the classification. The current world champion dreams of a 100% Brazilian podium in the French capital in 2024.

– Surfing is about these things, these attitudes. Why not increase our chances of winning a medal? It could be good for Italo who won a medal, but he opened the door to surfing. I could be the one to win a medal, he will open the doors to Gabriel, he will open the doors to João, he will open the doors to surfing. With all this we win, with all this we will always win. So why not gold, silver and bronze? It could happen, it would be historic,” he said.

The possible third place at the Olympic Games will be defined at the ISA World Cup, which will be held from 22 February to 2 March 2024 in Puerto Rico. The competition is played collectively and the Brazilian team will be formed by Medina, Toledo and Chianca. Therefore, Gabriel’s qualification for the Olympic Games also depends on the performance of his compatriots. Brazil will try even harder for a place in the women’s contest, in which only Tatiana Weston-Webb is guaranteed.

Before thinking about the ISA World Championships, however, Filipe Toledo and João Chianca are focused on the WSL Finals. Starting this Friday (8), in Lower Trestles, in the United States, the two Brazilians will compete for the 2023 world circuit title. Toledo arrives with the best season of the season, while Chumbinho is fourth. The other three finalists are Australians Ethan Ewing and Jack Robinson and American Griffin Colapinto.
