‘I went home and never came back’: The TV star was fired after 12 seasons and her career has been on hold ever since

Thomas Gibson was one of the stars of the series “Criminal Minds”, which ended in 2020, and about which fans recently learned some good news. But the man who played Agent Hotchner since the CBS show debuted was almost unceremoniously fired seven years ago, joining the list of stars fired from their TV shows. Take a look at this shocking moment in small screen history.

It is August 2016. The twelfth season of Criminal Minds has just started filming, when we learned that Thomas Gibson has reportedly hit up Virgil Williams, writer/producer of the hit detective series. First suspended for two weeks, the actor was eventually fired.

How to explain his sudden absence to the audience? The writers immediately rewrote the script and sent Hotchner’s character on a special mission.

More than a month after being fired, Thomas Gibson returned to the controversy with People magazine. Comments reported by the Deadline site. “One evening we were shooting a scene when I went to Virgil and told him that I thought one line contradicted another. He told me that this line was necessary and that he must see it.”he declares.

Thomas Gibson then recounts the scene that led to his firing, specifying that it occurred while he was telling some of his colleagues about the exchange with Williams. “Virgil came towards me. He pushed me to the side and at the same time he lifted my leg and kicked my leg. If I hadn’t moved, he would have sat on me.”– explains the actor.

“We had some harsh words for which I apologized the next day and it stayed there. It’s over.”he continues. “We shot the scene, I went home… and I never came back.”

And Thomas Gibson bitterly concludes: “It looks like they’re trying to remove me from the show. It hurts. My pride and reputation are hurt, but in the end I know people will remember my good work. I just need more opportunities to do good work and be a good person.”

Thomas Gibson has no doubt paid for his past behavior and reputation as an angry actor by being very cautious after being fired from Criminal Minds. The American only appeared in the credits of a secondary film called Shadow Wolves, which was released in 2019.
