In Raul’s column this month you will see that registrations in Brazil and the main European markets in the first half of 2023 confirm the growing interest in two-wheeled vehicles.
Motorcycle registrations in the five largest European markets, namely France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, reached 600,784 units in the first half of 2023. This represents an increase of 11.3% compared to the same period in 2022 , with 539,644 units. .

Numbers in Raul’s column
According to the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers, moped registrations reached a total volume of 99,782 units in the six largest European moped markets, namely Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. This license volume represents an overall reduction of 25.8% compared to the previous year, with 134,503 units.
This decline was widespread in the countries mentioned above, with the exception of Belgium, which recorded 15,864 units, an increase of 2.8%. According to the director of the European Motorcycle Manufacturers Association, sales of two-wheeled vehicles on the European market are showing a clear upward trend, especially in the long term.

In the last three years, the sale of motorcycles has shown a notable progression amounting to an increase of almost 50%. Unfortunately, in the case of combustion mopeds, an overall reduction of 12% was recorded, with an increasing share however for electric propulsion. As regards electric mopeds, growth has been fluctuating, especially due to the effect of tax incentives.
Expected increase in sales
In short, the data confirms the growing interest of consumers in two-wheeled vehicles, as they represent intelligent mobility, intended above all for short-distance urban and leisure travel.
Brazil also followed this post-pandemic growth trend. The factories installed in Manaus produced 764,271 motorcycles in the first half of 2023, an increase of 13.9% compared to the same period last year.
According to data released by Abraciclo, this is the best result of the first six months since 2014. This data is very important, given that in 2014 Brazil stood at 1.5 million units produced, an extremely significant number.
Finish
In June, 95,274 motorcycles were assembled, a volume 6.3% lower than the same month last year. In the case of year-to-date sales, considering the first half of 2023, 780,070 motorcycles were registered, with an increase of 22.5% compared to the same period of 2022.
In the month of June, 140,387 motorcycles were registered, with an increase of 16.2% compared to the same month last year. We can say that Europe and Brazil are showing great vigor in the sector and everything indicates that this trend will continue until the end of 2023!
