Three players involved will no longer be able to play football after FIFA extends sanctions worldwide
FIFA has extended the sanctions imposed by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) worldwide to at least 11 athletes involved in match manipulation cases, as highlighted by the Goiás MP’s Operation Maximum Penalty. Ygor Catatau, Gabriel Tota and Matheus Phillipethree of the players involved will no longer be able to play football.
In addition to the trio, punishments were also applied Jonathan Doin AND Onitsali Moraeswho have been removed for 720 days; André Luiz Guimarães Siqueira Junior, Paulo Sérgio Marques Corrêa and Mateus da Silva Duarteabsent for 600 days; Eduardo Bauermann, Fernando José da Cunha NetoAND Kevin Lomonaco, suspended for 360 days. According to the newspaper O Globo, the punishments start counting from the day the players were sentenced by the STJD.

When the STJD applied sanctions to players involved in the betting scandal, it extended the effect internationally. However, since it is a Brazilian court, linked to the CBF, other confederations may or may not accept the decision.
Athletes have the opportunity to appeal FIFA’s decision. Those involved can sue the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS, in English), but the case is considered firm and the possibility of reversing the decision of FIFA and the STJD is remote, according to information from O Globo.
On the other hand, this has not happened, for example, in other confederations. Eduardo Bauermann signed with a Turkish team – the contract was terminated this Monday (11) shortly before FIFA’s decision; Dadá Belmonte, who was banned from playing in Brazil, was loaned to a Ukrainian team, for example, but was not affected by FIFA’s decision. In order for the decisions to be valid, the Brazilian Football Confederation contacted FIFA with the STJD request which, after analysis, was accepted and its scope was extended to all confederations in the world.
