In early September, Mingau was the victim of an attempted robbery while driving in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. The musician was hit in the head and was found in serious condition. The attack took place near Praça do Ovo, in the Ilha das Cobras neighbourhood, when criminals surrounded Mingau’s vehicle and fired numerous shots, hitting him in the head.
After the accident, Mingau was initially treated at the Hugo Miranda Municipal Hospital and subsequently transferred to the São Luiz do Itaim Hospital, in São Paulo, in an intensive care plane provided by the Air Jet company. According to doctors responsible, the bullet hit the left side of the artist’s brain and passed through his skull, requiring intensive treatment to control cranial pressure. Porridge remains sedated and his condition is still considered serious.
Police, who continue to investigate the case, have already arrested a suspect who was in possession of a firearm and a large quantity of drugs. Delegate Marcelo Russo, in charge of the investigation, reported that the seized weapon is compatible with the caliber of the bullets found at the crime scene and identified three other people as possibly involved in the attack.
Mingau was in Paraty on business and ran his inn in the city. The latest medical bulletin, released by the São Luiz Hospital, informs that the musician has begun the process of gradually reducing sedation, but that his clinical conditions remain serious.
