Julio Casares confirms his candidacy for re-election as president of San Paolo

Elections will be held at the end of the year and until then no candidature had been made official

In an interview with the ‘Roda Viva’ program, president Julio Casares confirmed that he will stand for re-election as president of São Paulo. The elections take place at the end of the year and, until then, no candidature had been made official.

– I’m running for re-election, of course. There are elections in two months and we will fight. – said Casares.

The director also stated that he approved of the sporting performance of the Tricolor during his management, which began in 2021. Casares stated that the attendance records broken by fans at Morumbi are a sort of proof of this.

– I approve (the management) because the fans’ self-esteem has returned. We knocked the team out of the queue, we beat our main rivals Sao Paulo, we reached two finals in 2022 and another final now. We are once again protagonists, we are competing. With the scenario I hypothesized, we have to celebrate.

During the interview, the president answered other questions on the club’s policy, such as the proposal that provided for the direct election of the position, rejected by the Deliberative Council.

Casares denied being “afraid” of direct elections and compared the São Paulo elections to the electoral process in the United States. At Tricolor, the members elect the councilors and these, in turn, elect the president of the club.

– I was elected councilor in 2008 and 2014, I have a strong connection with the polls. It turns out that this proposal, which only had 54 signatures from councilors, was presented two months before the elections. Sao Paulo elections are very similar to American elections with delegates. Those who voted for my ticket indirectly voted for me, as well as for the other ticket.

The direct vote proposal was considered casuistic internally, as it was presented two months before the elections. However, in September last year, the situation presented a proposal that also changed the rules of the electoral process, allowing the re-election of the president. When asked if this proposal was also a case study, Casares denied it.

– It is not a case study (re-election proposal shortly before the elections). More than 90% of clubs are eligible for re-election. I’ve been in office for three years, which isn’t long. And I have no guarantee of being re-elected. If the other party has better proposals, present them. I will try my hand at this with great joy.
