Like the first installment and all films in the Conjuring Cinematic Universe, Michael Chaves’ The Nun 2 is prohibited in our theaters for children under 12.
The action of the feature film takes place in the South of France in 1956. And Irene, still played by Taissa Farmiga, now works at a boarding house in St.Lucie, Provence. He realizes very quickly that Valak has followed him.
For the director, the nun is now one of the iconic monsters of popular culture. He became a true icon of horror cinema.
Michael Chaves explains in the press kit: “I believe that the demonic nun is one of the legendary monsters of horror cinema. As soon as we see him on the poster, he reminds us a bit of Dracula. There’s also a bit of Pennywise in her house and Nosferatu. He is eternal. He is one of the absolute icons of horror cinema and the most powerful antagonist of the Seventh Art.”
Nun 2
The director, who has already worked on The Curse of the White Lady and Conjuring: The Devil’s Grasp, then explains his approach for this sequel and why the character is so terrifying.
“In this new episode, I wanted to go even further. I wanted to explore the different manifestations of the monster. And I wanted to delve even deeper into the history, or at least the myth and theories that have been circulating about its potential origins. It was important to move in this direction without being too concrete. Because the strength of the character also comes from the fact that we don’t know exactly where it comes from and it keeps something secret. That’s what makes it scary.“.

Nun 2
For producer Peter Safran, who recently announced the launch of a series tied to the Conjuring saga, if Valak is so scary, it’s because he takes on the qualities of a nun who should be a saintly character.
He states “First, almost everyone is afraid of nuns. But if we combine this terror with the amazing face of the demonic nun and the origin of Valak, we get a result that resonates very strongly with fans of horror movies. The idea of a profoundly evil force taking on the most holy form – a nun – is irresistible.
Nun 2 It opens in theaters this Wednesday, September 13th.
