The Peruvian team struggled to find the net of the Peruvian goal, but managed to win in Lima in injury time

The Brazilian team suffered, but beat Peru 1-0, this Tuesday (12), in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Lima’s performance ended up frustrating the Canary Islands fans, who became emotional after the defeat against Bolivia , Friday (8). But Brazil’s goal came late on, with Marquinhos, in the 45th minute of the second half.
With this result the Seleção rises to six points and moves to the top of the table, leaving Argentina in second place on goal difference. The Peruvians, with just one point, drop to seventh place.
FIVE MOVES THAT MARKED THE DUEL
> ETERNAL VAR! Brazil correctly had two goals disallowed in the first half. In the second half, however, VAR took seven minutes to define an irregular position, which was very clear even without lines. Yes: seven minutes: that’s not a typo!
> WHAT A SORRY, PIGEON! This disallowed second goal was scored by Richarlison, who truly celebrated something he needed. However, frustration soon followed. This time, however, there were no tears after he was replaced.
> ALL PROFESSOR? After two long breaks for VAR and medical treatment, the Argentine referee allowed only seven minutes of injury time in the first half, exactly the time in which the game was stopped for the video referee’s second analysis.
> HOW LONG, DINIZ! There was no match against Brazil in the second half, but the first substitution only came in the 19th minute and had no effect. The second was done with almost 40. Too late.
> Wow! When it looked like nothing would happen and the 0-0 would remain on the scoreboard, Martinelli found a corner taken by Neymar and found the head of Marquinhos to open the scoring 45 minutes into the second half. Brazilian victory in Lima.
FIRST TIME
The Brazilian team experienced a very difficult first half in Lima. The Peruvians marked very hard and pushed Brazil’s ball out so as not to make Diniz’s team feel at ease. However, when he managed to circulate the ball and get out of that “lock”, Neymar and his teammates managed to pose a threat, enough to score two goals disallowed by VAR. Ney himself missed a good opportunity, but the real shame was making the wrong decisions.
FIRST TIME
Brazil’s offensive momentum waned in the second half. Peru manages to keep the ball more than the Brazilian, who is unable to create much from midfield forward. There were many lateral touches without finishing, leaving the Peruvians comfortable in the situation. Rafhinha also tried to shoot, but the goalkeeper saved. The lack of perspective was so great that the 0-0 seemed obvious. However, Martinelli gets a corner kick, Neymar hits the head of Marquinhos, who deflects it to open the scoring and seal the victory.
WHAT’S NEXT
The Brazilian team will now meet again in October, when they will face Venezuela, on the 12th, in Cuiabá, and then Uruguay, on the 17th, in Montevideo. Peru face Chile away from home and then host Argentina.
