Ethan and Maya Hawke worked together on the biopic Wildcat, which tells the story of writer Flannery O’Connor
During participation in the Toronto International Film Festival(TIFF)2023, Ethan Hawke commented how the daughter Maya Hawkestar of Stranger Thingshas “one of the best performances I’ve ever seen” in a film.
The film in question is Wildcatdirected by Ethan and starring Mayaand follows the real story of the writer Flannery O’Connorresponsible for books such as Wise Blood (1952), Good Country People (1955) and Everything That Rises Must Converge (1965) to publish the first work of his career.
According to information from People, Ethan praised his daughter’s “mind-blowing intelligence and commitment” in a panel about the production at TIFF. “Above all, I want to thank you for your work,” joked the actor in reference to the fact that Maya is an executive producer of the film. “She hired me and I did my best to help her.”
“If you see anything else tonight, you’ll see a young artist just circling around his father, running out the door and patting him on the butt as he goes by,” he continued. “This is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen and I can’t wait for you to see it.”
