Oscars 2024: Jean Dujardin and Anatomy of a Fall among the 5 finalists representing France

Which work will replace Saint Omer’s Alice Diop, who represented France in last year’s Oscar race for best foreign film?

Five candidates were recently selected by the committee responsible for selecting this film. Through a press release, CNC revealed the final list.

– Anatomy of a Fall Justin Triet

– Golden drop Clément Cogitore

– The Passion of Dodin Buphan by Tran Anh Hung

– Thomas Cayley’s Animal Kingdom

– On the black paths of Denis Imbert

Autumn Anatomy, the 2023 Palme d’Or, is the favorite. It has already attracted more than 600,000 viewers in France, a success that surprised its director Justine Triet. Dodin Bouffant’s Passion was also awarded Best Director at Cannes. The film will be released in theaters on November 8.

Goutte d’or, helmed by Karim Leclot, also impressed when it was released last March, as did Sur les chemins noirs, helmed by the intense Jean Dujardin. On the other hand, on October 4, the fantastic movie Animal Kingdom with the participation of Romain Dury is scheduled to be released in cinemas.

The name of the lucky finalist will be announced on September 21, 2022. If Anatomy of the Fall is selected, a female director will represent France in the Oscar race for the 3rd year in a row, following Julia Ducournau (Titan) and Alice Diop (Saint Omer).

As CNC explains, the commission is composed of seven film professionals: two exporters, two producers, two directors and a qualified person since last year. The Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak, in connection with the 2024 Oscar award ceremony and at the suggestion of the President of the CNC, appointed:

These seven professionals will meet twice, in the presence of the President of the CNC and the President of Unifrance, Gilles Pelisson, both of whom have observer status without a deliberative vote.”
