San Paolo has already started the sale of Wellington to CSKA, from Russia. The negotiations for the transfer of the left back should be finalized this Thursday (14th), the deadline for the closing of the negotiation windows for Europe.
Wellington returned to Brazil last Tuesday and has already joined Sao Paulo. The full-back was in Morocco, with the Pre-Olympic national team, to participate in two friendly matches in the African country. However, due to an earthquake, the team postponed their return.
San Paolo had already rejected an offer from English Brentford for the player. Wellington was also coveted by other European clubs. The recent agreement, however, ended with CSKA.
However, before the Wellington deal, the Russians tried to sign Juninho Capixaba, from Red Bull Bragantino. Unable to sign the contract, they pushed once again for the signature of the San Paolo player.
Trained in the youth categories of San Paolo, however, Wellington was Caio Paulista’s reserve. The full-back has played 19 games this season, a total of 103 since his debut for the club.
São Paulo managed to partially satisfy coach Dorival Júnior’s only request in this transfer window. At least he didn’t lose any regular players, as the club didn’t sell any first-team players.
Profit objective
At the beginning of the year, São Paulo aimed to raise R$140 million from player sales alone. However, prizes in contests can make up for the loss. The title of the Copa do Brasil, which will be played against Flamengo on the 17th at the Maracanã and on the 24th at the Morumbi, is worth 70 million reals. The team is guaranteed at least R$48 million in the tournament, if it finishes second.
