Bruno Lage underlines Botafogo’s advantage and bets on work to overcome the instability

Botafogo’s lead has decreased, but remains constant. After two consecutive defeats, the leader of the Brazilian championship sees Palmeiras getting ever closer. The moment is unstable, but nothing that can shake coach Bruno Lage’s confidence.

After the 1-0 defeat against Atlético-MG, this Saturday, at the MRV Arena, in Belo Horizonte, Lage addressed the positive points of Botafogo, highlighted the advantage and predicted difficulties for the Brasileirão sequence.

“We must not widen the gap up front. It’s about continuing with this mentality of arriving in the game as we did today (Saturday) and as we did in the match against Flamengo. Do you know how many scoring chances? Atlético-MG had, of those clear opportunities in which our goalkeeper had the opponents in front of him and saved the team? How many opportunities did Atlético-MG have? Zero. How many clear opportunities did Flamengo have that could have been another great save from “Our goalkeeper, what made him one of the best goalkeepers in Brazil? Zero. In other matches it happened several times, but the team won. We have to look at the outcome, but we have to look at the process. We “We haven’t given as many opportunities to our opponents. This is the path and to always continue to believe in it”, began Bruno Lage.

“It gives some encouragement to the opponent, who recovers three points. That’s a fact. When we arrived here, we managed to increase the gap to our opponents, but they still have seven points. That’s what we have to keep working. We have to keep working to win the next match with the same energy with which we came here. Our goal is to finish in the same position we were in in the last round. In the last five, six, seven championships, no one has won four or five rounds before. We know that it is a very competitive league and any team can beat any team. We saw the match between Palmeiras and Goiás, in which the second team won with a goal in the 97th minute. We need to know how to live with this pressure, live with this anxiety and realize that the second round is always much more difficult than the first, as the teams will count down to win the title, Libertadores, Sudamericana and avoid reaching the semi-finals”, concluded the Botafogo coach.

In the defeat against Atlético-MG, Fogão was angry with the refereeing of Ramon Abatti Abel (Fifa-SC). The complaint was due to the disallowed goal of Diego Costa. Director André Mazzuco and coach Bruno Lage protested strongly.

With 51 points, Botafogo leads the Brasileirão with seven points more than Palmeiras. In the next round, Fogão will visit Corinthians, this Friday, at 20:00 (Brasilia time), at the Neo Química Arena.
