Unisa medical students suffer sexual harassment during a university match

This Saturday, 16 medical students from the University of Santo Amaro (Unisa), in São Paulo, were caught in an act of sexual harassment during a women’s volleyball match at Intermed, a sports competition between medical schools.

– In recordings posted on social media, about 20 men run around the field with their pants down. On that occasion they touched their private parts in a “collective masturbation”. In another video they repeat the act while watching the volleyball match.

– The videos have been echoed on social media and Internet users are asking for Unisa’s position on what happened.. Even personalities such as Felipe Neto and MST (PT) deputy Marisa called for intervention from the faculty and showed their indignation.

– In a report on the UOL website published in 2022, it emerged that the practice is a “tradition” carried on by Unisa medical interns.

– The fact falls under article 215 of the penal code as a crime of sexual harassment. The expected penalty is 1 to 5 years in prison. Defined by Law no. 13.718/18, the crime of sexual harassment “is characterized by the performance of a lustful act in the presence of someone in a non-consensual manner, with the aim of ‘satisfying one’s own lust or that of a third party'”.

– Unisa’s athletic medical department released a note about what happened and said “the footage does not represent the principles and values” of the sports company. “We do not tolerate or condone any acts of abuse or discrimination,” she wrote.
