Author of the ‘Oslo’ trilogy and Oscar nominee alongside Eskil Vogt, Joachim Trier prepares new drama
Joachim Trier is preparing another film alongside fellow filmmaker Eskil Vogt. The two were nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay for The Worst Person in the World (2021) and will repeat the dose of Renate Reinsve, who will be the protagonist of the new family drama. Filming is scheduled to begin in August, in Norway, France and Germany. Read synopsis prepared by Variety:
Sentimental Value will accompany Nora (Renate Reinsve), an actress, and her sister Agnes, who are grieving their mother while their father Gustav reappears in their lives after a long time away. Gustav, once a successful filmmaker, writes a script for a new film and offers the lead role to Nora, who categorically refuses it. Looking back on his career, Gustav meets a lovely Hollywood star in France and offers her the role previously intended for Nora. When filming begins in Norway, where he lives, Gustav sees the opportunity to repair his bond with Nora and Agnes.
Juliette Schrameckone of the producers, stated that Sentimental Valuewill look like The Worst Person in the Worldbut will be “more ambitious and mature, with a combination of comedy and drama.” NathanaĆ«l Karmitzanother producer, and Schrameck described the project as being about “family, memory, and how we need to rewrite the stories we tell about ourselves to survive.”
