In addition to the performance, U2 also recorded scenes for a supposed music video for “Atomic City”, which should be released at the end of September
O U2 released a new Las Vegas-inspired song titled “Atomic City” during a surprise recording that took place this Saturday (16) on Freemont Street in Sin City, in downtown Las Vegas, in the United States.
At the band’s presentation, which took place two weeks before their residency entitled U2 UV: Achtung Baby at MSG Sphere, Bono Vox and his partners played the track a few times, also serving as the recording of the music video for the supposed single, which should be released at the end of this month.
“Atomic City” takes its title from the nickname Las Vegas during the days of the nuclear bomb tests in the 1950s, when tourism boomed both with gambling and the chance to view the tests from the city’s desert outskirts. Before touching her, Bono described the track as “rock n’ roll 45 [single rpm] in the post-punk tradition of the late seventies as the sounds of blondie, The Clash”.

Bono also noted how the band previously “performed” on Fremont Street: They filmed the music video for “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking” on the same road in April 1987, when his tour The Joshua Tree Tour made his way through Las Vegas.
The filming of this video was attended by the drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who will not participate in the band’s new series of shows as he is still recovering from back surgery. For upcoming shows, U2 will count on the help of the Dutch Bram van den Bergdrummer of Krezip.
“The four of us recorded the song. But unfortunately, Larry Mullen Jr.. will not be with us at Sphere. He doesn’t obey doctor’s orders. Not many of us. And he’s here tonight… Applause for Larry Mullen Jr.!,” Bono told the audience, as reported by Las Vegas Review-Journal.
