Netflix: Understand the ending explained for Body in Flames
In Corpo em Chamas, despite many suspicions about Pedro’s death, detective Ester Varona ultimately comes to the conclusion that the culprit was Rosa, together with her lover Albert.
To protect herself from the detective’s suspicions towards her, Rosa tries to incriminate Javi, her ex-husband, and even convinces her parents to tell Ester that she saw Pedro on May 2nd. However, through the location of Pedro, Albert and Rosa’s cell phones, it is discovered that the three were at Rosa’s house the day Pedro disappeared.
The detective searches for Rosa’s parents once again, but this time the mother is unable to maintain the lie and ends up confessing. Pedro, who left his wife to be with Rosa, was cheated on by her with Albert, who was very jealous of Pedro.
Albert sends Pedro a printout of a conversation between him and Rosa, and Pedro leaves her, but ends up getting back together with her after she confesses to him on a social network. The two begin an engagement and make plans for the future, but Rosa, who has had an affair with Albert, ends up feeling that the relationship between her and Pedro was very toxic and decides, together with her lover, to kill him.
Body on fire: what happens in court
Rosa tells her lawyer and her parents that it was Albert who killed Pedro with an ax and that she hadn’t said anything for fear that Albert would hurt her. Meanwhile, Albert claims that Rosa killed him and only helped her get rid of her body.
But the evidence suggests that both are lying and guilty of voluntary manslaughter. In fact, Rosa’s daughter, Sofia, told her father, Javi, that he saw her mother covered in blood on May 2nd. Furthermore, Juanjo, a friend of Albert, claims that he asked how to kill someone and not get caught, and the way the crime against Pedro happened was the same way he taught Albert. Varona is then called to court to recount the evidence she found about how the murder occurred.
What happened that day
That day Rosa had argued with Pedro and had called Albert saying that she wanted to kill him that same night. After putting her daughter to sleep and giving Pedro a large amount of medicine, she Rosa asks him to go to the basement to get a mousetrap, and Pedro ends up falling asleep there. He then ends up being killed by Albert and Rosa, leaving traces of blood on the lamp and the floor.
The next day Rosa accompanies her daughter to her parents’ house. She sends several messages to other people from Pedro’s cell phone, and when night falls, she and Albert take Pedro’s cell phone to Javi’s house to frame him.
Then they go to the tank and burn the car with Pedro in the trunk.
Rosa and Albert try to hide the bloodstains in the basement and put an end to the evidence, but Sofia heard Pedro being murdered and saw her mother covered in blood.
The verdict
After the detective’s explanation, the jury finds Rosa and Albert guilty of voluntary manslaughter. Rosa is sentenced to 25 years in prison and Albert to 20 years.
Some time later, Rosa and Albert try to appeal, but the Supreme Court does not accept the request and ends up increasing Rosa’s sentence by another five years.
