More than 1.3 million taxpayers have fallen by the wayside, the Revenue Agency says

A IRS published this Friday, 22nd, the balance of the declarations of Personal Income Tax (IRPF) 2023base year 2022. According to the agency, 1,366,778 the returns were kept in a fiscal net, known as “fine mesh”.

Between March and September of this year, the Federal Revenue Service received 43,481,995 income tax returns. The number falling into the fine mesh corresponds to 3.1% of the total declarations received. [Veja abaixo]

This Friday, the IRS also released a consultation on the fifth and final batch of the 2023 IRPF refund. The refund has been paid since May of this year. In this month’s batch, tax authorities will pay R$1.9 billion to 1.2 million taxpayers.

Of the total number of statements stored in the shirt:

  • 954,814 declarations whose outcome determined by the taxpayer is Tax Refundable (IAR). The figure corresponds to 70% of the total DIRPF retained;
  • 386,102 declarations whose outcome determined by the taxpayer is Tax Payable (IAP). The figure corresponds to 28% of the total DIRPF retained;
  • 25,962 declarations whose result determined by the taxpayer is zero, i.e. there is no amount of tax to be refunded or paid. The number corresponds to 2% of the total DIRPF withheld.

The main reasons for tax withholding:

  • 58.1% – Withholdings, with medical expenses as the main cause of withholding (42.3% of the total causes of withholding).
  • 27.6% – Omission of income subject to annual adjustment for owners and declared dependent family members.
  • 10.0% – Discrepancies between the IRRF (Income tax withheld at source) values ​​and what is reported in the Dirf and what is declared by private individuals in the DIRPF.
  • 4.3% – Deductions from the tax due, receipt of cumulative income and discrepancies between the declared carnet and supplementary tax amounts and the amounts actually collected.
