What are the toxic avengers?
Born in 1984 from the imagination of Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Hertz – through their company Troma, which specializes in nonsense – The Toxic Avenger is an ultra-nonsensical parody of superhero movies.
The film follows Melvin, a fragile young man who is transformed into a monstrous creature of superhuman size and strength after falling into a vat of toxic chemical waste.
3 sequels followed in 1989-2000. The franchise, which has become iconic, is Troma’s first real success. These films today can be considered as the predecessors of Deadpool.
Big fan of studio films, director Macon Blair explains the journal Entertainment Weekly has a long history with the studio.
“Those movies were a big source of inspiration as a kid. I used to make movies with my friends. We imitated Monty Python and the first Troma movies.” So, for him to direct the remake of Toxic Avengers is kind of it “Back to basics, but with Peter Dinklage and Kevin Bacon. It’s really surreal.”
The remake announced 15 years ago went through several hands. Arnold Schwarzenegger was even considered for the lead role in the film and the role of the superhero’s right-hand man.

Macon Blair explains: “The look came from discussions I had with our designers and with Elias himself. I wanted it to feel like we were watching a performance like this. Peter Sellers, where it simply becomes invisible. The idea is that we forget that this is the same actor we know from The Lord of the Rings.“
And it looks like the bet is done because the Lord of the Rings actor is unrecognizable.
Don’t be a murderer

Fritz rents”A gang of dangerous lunatics” Known as the Killer Nutz, both killers and musicians. The director told the American magazine:
“I found it funny to see a rock and roll group that pretends to be an evil theater group, like KISS or Alice Cooper, but whose moonlighters are professional killers. So when they talk about how dangerous and evil they are, they really are“.
