Police operations against drug trafficking cause 11 deaths in Bahia

At least 11 suspects linked to drug trafficking have been killed in operations by Bahia’s security forces against drug trafficking over the past two days, the Public Security Secretariat said on Friday, in another wave of violence in the state.

Six deaths occurred this Friday in the capital Salvador, after security forces went to the neighborhood of Águas Claras to execute 43 search, seizure and arrest warrants against suspects involved in organized crime.

During the action there was resistance from criminals and shootings, while six suspects died after being transported to hospital with injuries, according to the secretariat of state.

“During the investigation, 15 men and women had an arrest warrant issued and six resisted, were taken to hospital, but did not survive,” the Security Secretariat said.

The day before, a joint action by civil, military and federal police resulted in the killing of five more suspects in the municipality of Simões Filho, according to the Baia government.

“The police went to Barro Duro, a town in the municipality of Simões Filho, and saw the men. As they approached, members of one faction shot and were injured. They were saved, but did not resist,” he said. informed the secretariat.

According to the ministry, the men were involved in a clash that occurred last week in Valéria, a neighborhood of Salvador, which ended with the death of a federal police officer and the wounding of two others, a civilian and a federal agent .

According to authorities, three rifles, a carbine, a submachine gun, a shotgun, six pistols, two revolvers, a grenade, ammunition, among other items were seized during the week.

Bahia has recorded a series of deaths in recent months during police actions or due to the involvement of organized crime, with 19 deaths in a single week in early August and a massacre with nine victims in the same month.
