Cris Cyborg reveals she has “forgiven” Dana White after years of controversy

The Bellator champion has had a troubled relationship with the UFC manager for years

The relationship between Cris Cyborg and Dana White has never been the best over the years and there have been several public clashes between the fighter and the UFC manager. But it may be that this feud has resolved itself over time.

In an interview with ESPN, the Brazilian revealed that she recently had a conversation with Ultimate’s CEO, when he discussed her presence at an organization event. The Bellator featherweight champion said during the chat she came to terms with her former boss and ‘forgave’ him for statements made against her in the past.

– I asked Dana what she thought about me watching a friend of mine fight at APEX. And I told him I loved him. And Dana told me “ok, no problem”. I’ve already forgiven him. Everything that happened before… we get older and it’s not nice to have regrets. We are on different sides of life, but I wish him the best – said Cyborg.

The “feud” between Dana White and Cris Cyborg is an old one, dating back to before the fighter moved to the UFC. The Brazilian exchanged barbs with the director over his refusal to allow the Curitiba native to face Ronda Rousey if she did not satisfy his wishes that the bout take place at bantamweight, a category in which ‘Rowdy’ was champion, and not at featherweight, where The Cyborg has always reigned.

Despite such problems and even the offensive statements of the UFC boss towards her, the Brazilian accepted the Ultimate’s invitation and, after having encountered difficulties in gaining weight, managed to rise and become featherweight champion, but came into conflict with the organization, with several public criticisms directed at White, especially because, in his opinion, he did not see the organization’s commitment to hiring athletes for the category.

The peak of attrition came after losing the featherweight belt to Amanda Nunes. Ultimate’s current CEO said she would turn down a rematch for UFC 232, to which the Paraná woman responded by saying White “lied.” The attrition lasted for some time until the Paraná native decided to leave the organization.

Today Cris Cyborg is at Bellator, where she is the featherweight champion, and will defend against Cat Zingano at the Bellator 300, on the 7th, in San Diego.
