Francesco Azzarello will leave his position on 27 September
The Italian ambassador to Brazil, Francesco Azzarello, has published a farewell message on the eve of the official conclusion of his diplomatic mission in the largest country in Latin America.
“On September 27th I will leave the position of Ambassador of Italy to Brazil. In these almost four years I have had the privilege of serving in this great country, united with ours by historical blood ties thanks to 32 million Italian descendants, where in 2024-25 will be the solemn celebration of the 150th anniversary of Italian emigration”, writes the ambassador in the text, which summarizes his work in Brasilia.
“Despite the difficult pandemic context, from the beginning I have worked to strengthen the country system, with teamwork structured on multiple levels and always in terms of bilateral flows. In these four years, economic-commercial relations have intensified, driven by a growth of over 26% in trade, for the over 27 billion euros of Italian investments announced and orders obtained by our companies, and for the growing number of Italian companies active in Brazil, recently counted at 986”, he the diplomat underlined.
In the message, Azzarello underlined that “the Embassy, the consular network and the Italian cultural institutes have held more than 690 economic-commercial, linguistic-cultural and scientific promotion events, always with a view to partnership with their Brazilian counterparts “.
An example is the “First Italian Film Festival in Brazil, in 2022, with the participation of over 100 thousand spectators, which from next November will further increase its diffusion throughout the territory, reaching in person and virtually, as well as free of charge, 18 states, 56 city and 76 cinemas”.
“The widespread nature of our work, in all areas of bilateral relations, has been aimed at all the States that make up this great country. In these almost four years I have signed the first Executive Program of Scientific and Technological Cooperation Italy-Brazil, which has led to the launch of nine research projects: for the first time the CNR, the National Research Council, and Embrapa, the Brazilian agricultural research institute, have signed an agreement to strengthen bilateral scientific and technological cooperation in a strategic sector in which we have great complementarity”, he underlined.
