In the original cut of the film, Michael Cera would have been inspired by the cinema classic ‘Jaws’; understand why the scene was deleted
When Barbie arrived in cinemas in July, audiences were treated to an incredibly pink hour and 54 minute spectacle.
But, like most film productions, several scenes were not included in the final edit, including one starring the character of Michael Cera, Allanwhich was inspired by another big box office success and made the director Greta Gerwig having a fit of laughter during recording.
In an interview with Varietythe director of photography of Barbie, Rodrigo Prietodescribed the deleted scene that involved Ken (Ryan Gosling) and his mysterious friend. After filming, Prieto further reveals that Gerwig asked the film’s video assistant to “replay it for her just for laughs.”
We did a scene in Allan (MichaelWax) that emulated Jaws – Revenge (1987). He is terrified [quando] Ken hits a wave and then flies away. There is a moment when the police officer sees someone being eaten in the water.”
Prieto continued: “The camera does this push-in. It’s a move where you zoom in and adjust the character while zooming back in at the same time. The effect is that the background changes – the scene and its performance, [foram] very dramatic and also very funny.”
Although Prieto hasn’t revealed whether we’ll ever see the sarcastic homage to the classic by Steven Spielberghe hopes that Gerwig disclose behind-the-scenes and bloopers to the public, especially with Will Ferrell because he invented the craziest things.”
All the actors around him couldn’t help but laugh. We were all playing and a lot of improvisational moments had to be eliminated.”
With Barbie, Greta Gerwig became the first female director to surpass the US$1 billion mark at the global box office. The film should return to Brazilian cinemas later this month in IMax theaters with exclusive post-credits scenes selected by the director herself.
