Intel Meteor and Arrow Lake are expected to have similar AI chips

The drivers found reveal similarities between the two generations’ neural processing units, used to accelerate AI tasks

One of the great innovations of Intel Meteor Lake processorsWhat will be released in December 2023, is the presence of the new Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This is an integrated chip to help with artificial intelligence tasks, and according to information from the Phoronix website, this structure will be reused in the future generation of Arrow Lake in a very similar way.

A Linux kernel update has revealed that the drivers used for building Meteor Lake will be very similar to those used in Arrow Lake. While there is no more in-depth information about it, this is yet another clear proof of this investment in artificial intelligence made by Intel in this field.

The Italian team will use the NPU for specific activities, divided into two large groups. The first will focus on improvements to audio effects, content creation, games and assistants like Microsoft Copilot. The second will highlight the most computationally intensive operations, focusing on LLMs (Large Language Models), such as ChatGPT.

Although Intel calls this structure NPU, the name

Artificial intelligence is the future of Intel

This will be the first time a processor from Intel it will have an integrated chip for artificial intelligence. In fact, the company’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, has already revealed that he intends to do so insert Artificial Intelligence into every company product In the next years.

As for Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake, we will have to wait a little longer to understand how the chips will behave in different generations. It is worth mentioning that the 15th generation Arrow Lake will be produced in 2 nanometer lithography.

Also in 2024, the company plans Lunar Lake notebook processors. These models were demonstrated during Innovation 2023, creating a song based on singer Taylor Swift’s features and custom images via Stable Diffusion. For these CPUs, the NPU should have more pronounced differences.
