The curse continues for Katherine Langford. While she was supposed to be the star of the new series, The Venery of Samantha Bird, the Starz platform simply decided to cancel the project.
Problem: Much of the fiction had already been filmed. As a result of the writers’ strike – which officially ended on September 27 – filming on the series was abruptly halted in early May with only two episodes left to shoot.
This abandoned project adds to the many disappointments that have accumulated in the actor’s career in recent years. After being cut from filming Avengers Endgame, in which she played Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) daughter, Katherine Langford saw her Netflix series, Cursed, canceled after just one season.
However, the platform was heavily funding the project, given the success of 13 Reasons Why, another series for which the actor received a Golden Globe nomination. Katherine Langford was recently seen on the Australian show Savage River, which went relatively unnoticed by the rest of the world.
However, everything started well. After the phenomenal 13 Reasons Why, the actor went on to star in two big hits: 2017’s Love, Simon, the first teen film produced by a major studio to feature an LGBT character. And two years later, in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out. Since then, he has not found a project that matches his talent.
Samantha Bird’s Venner is supposed to follow a young woman’s return to her hometown in New England and her reunion with her childhood sweetheart.
Three other projects at Starz were canceled: Heels, starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, was canceled after two seasons, as were Run the World and Blindspotting, which were also canceled after two seasons.
It’s a safe bet that these cancellations are just a direct result of the writers’ strike, which has shut down many programs and cost studios and platforms a lot of money.
