How will the Paris Games in 2024 affect the filming of movies and series in the French capital? Just nine months before the event, the CNC (National Center for Cinematography and Motion Pictures) held an informational meeting on the subject this Tuesday, September 26th.
The biopic dedicated to General de Gaulle, directed by Simon Abkarian, as well as the next adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo, will be shot in the summer of 2023, as specified by the delegate of the Cinema Mission in Paris, Michel. Gomez, whose comments were collected Le Figaro. And the Americans will return on January 1, now that the writers’ strike is over.
But they will have to act fast. Because it will not be possible to shoot action and/or period films and series in Paris from March 15th to October 30th according to the schedule revealed by the CNC.
Period 1: Before March 15 and after November 1, 2024
- Game areas: All filming is possible with extreme caution in several sensitive workplaces.
- Outside of games: All filming is possible.
Period 2: March 16 – June 15, 2024
- Game areas: Special filming ban (from action and period films) on the installation perimeters of the event sites during this assembly period. Standard shooting will be possible after examination.

Period 3: From June 16 to September 15, 2024
- Games area: There are no exceptions or standard filming during this so-called “red” period, which refers to the main events scheduled from July 26 to August 11. Next, for para-athletes, which will be held from August 28 to September 8.
- Outside the gaming area: No special filming is allowed. Standard shooting is possible, but with a reduced amount.
Period 4: From September 16 to October 30, 2024
- Games area: Prohibition of special filming on the perimeters of the dismantling of the event sites. Standard shooting will be possible after examination.
- Outside the gaming area: Standard and special shooting can be done with extreme vigilance in sensitive areas.
Are we headed for a postponement of the planned filming? It is not necessary. His Minutes of the information meetingWhere he lists the venues for the games in Ile-de-France and recalls that the region finances around 150 jobs every year, the CNC offers alternative solutions.
Here is (almost) Paris
Thus, the Haussmannian style of the capital can be found in several cities in its immediate suburbs (Vincens, Courbevoie, Levallois-Perret, etc.) or Pontoise can be settings of historical Paris.
The center also details studios available for summer 2024 in Ile-de-France and the rest of the country. Also fun alternatives: Need Notre Dame de Paris? Reims Cathedral will do the trick (or Amiens and Bourges, used by Jean-Jacques Anne for the film on the terrible fire).
And why look for bridges on the banks of the Seine, when the bridge of the University of Lyon does the job just as well? Not to mention this Haussmannian style that we find in various French cities, from Bordeaux to Marseilles via Rennes and Strasbourg. or a solution for special effects and other embeddings.
With System D often taking precedence over filming, games will require teams to redouble their wits for most of 2024. And maybe all we see is fire. Movie magic, real.
