It was the flagship series on the American channel Cartoon Network and a few years later on France 3: Les Super Nanas. The adventures of Bull, Belle and Rebel moved a whole generation of viewers. Good news for childhood nostalgia fans: The first two seasons are now available on Netflix.
It is enough to immerse yourself in the beginning of this super-charged series, with atypical animation, which tells how three little girls created in a laboratory, the superheroes of the city of Townsville and the terrible Mojo Jojo, the monkey, look amazing.
In the early 2000s, the Powerpuff Girls’ success was such that a movie adaptation of the cartoon was released in theaters. Years later, their influence on popular culture is still as strong as ever.
No one has forgotten this infernal trio to the point that even The CW is encouraging a live-action adaptation – in actual footage. But is it really possible to adapt a series like Powerpuff Girls with real actors? Nothing is less certain.
Production began, three adult actresses – Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron and Jana Perrault – and filmed the first episode. Problem: The first photos of the heroines in costume were leaked online and tragedy struck.

Teasing proliferated online, and in May 2021, The CW announced it was dropping the series. Thus, the pilot episode will not be continued and the actors will only have to return to their costumes.
A few days after the cancellation, CW President Mark Pedowitz offered some explanation: “Tonally, it was a little too kitschy. It wasn’t as grounded in reality as it should have been. But again, you do by learning. In this particular case, it is better for us to step back and get back to business.“
Two years later, in May 2023, The information is official : There will be no Powerpuff Girls series. For the disappointed, there’s always the option of going back to the iconic cartoon.
