Roberto Kalil Filho, the PT member’s doctor, said the plastic surgery was performed to “take advantage of the effect of the anesthetic”
BRASILIA – The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) underwent surgery to remove excess skin from his eyelids this Friday the 29th, during the procedure to place a prosthetic hip. Cardiologist Roberto Kalil Filho, the PT member’s doctor, said the plastic surgery was performed to “take advantage of the effect of the anesthetic.”
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a surgical procedure used to treat excess skin in the eye area, which gives the appearance of droopy eyelids. The condition is common in older adults. It is a surgical procedure considered of low complexity. The two procedures were performed at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, in Brasilia.
The hip arthroplasty, an orthopedic surgery, was performed to eliminate the pain the president has been feeling in his hip since August last year. A prosthesis was installed in place of the damaged parts. According to Kalil, Lula should be discharged from the hospital on Monday 2nd or Tuesday 3rd and will go to the Palácio da Alvorada.
The president’s surgeon, Giancarlo Polesello, said the procedure should be “quite effective” against pain.
The hip surgery took place from 12pm to 1.13pm; while the procedure on the eyelids took place from 3pm to 4.16pm.
