The Pope launches a new appeal for peace in Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh

The Pope said he was monitoring the situation in the separatist region

Pope Francis once again called for peace in Ukraine and the Nagorno-Karabakh region during this Sunday’s traditional Angelus celebration (1).

The leader of the Catholic Church said he was following the “dramatic story” of the thousands of people who fled the area due to the withering offensive led by Azerbaijan. “I renew my appeal for dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia, hoping that the talks between the parties, with the support of the international community, will favor a lasting agreement that will put an end to the humanitarian crisis” asked the cleric.

According to Armenian authorities, more than 100,000 people have fled the separatist region, or about 80% of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the pontiff prayed once again for peace in the country and took the opportunity to include “all the lands wounded by war” in his prayer. .
