Tupac Shakur murder: Suspect arrested and charged after 27 years

A pretty incredible twist for a cold case that’s nearly 30 years old. In front of a judge in Las Vegas this Friday, September 29, prosecutor Mark DiGiacomo announced that he has charged the suspect in the drive-by shooting death of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur, who was also an actor. The night of September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas. He was hit four times, including two fatal wounds in the chest, a bullet that pierced his pelvis and right arm, and the last one in his thigh.

The suspect in custody is Duane Davis, aka “Keffe D,” a former gang member who admitted to being in the car from which the shots were fired, but said he was in the front seat of the car, not the back seat from which the shots were fired, he said.

Duane Davis “There was a sponsor of this group who committed this crime and he organized a plan that was carried out.” Las Vegas police commented. “Under Nevada law, (…) you could be charged with a crime whether you were a direct participant or an accessory. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said at a press conference for the day.

Although the facts were known for a long time, the police never had the necessary elements to finally start a trial. It was Duane Davis, the last living witness in the case, who in a sense provided his own rope. With the publication of his memoirs in 2019, The Legend of Compton Streetas well as various interviews given by him, “He presented his own statements that are completely consistent with the evidence.”

A close friend of the rapper, who met him in the late 1980s at the Baltimore School of the Arts in Maryland, actress Jada Pinkett Smith spoke about the coup in the case.
