Considering the early reviews, Saw X is a pleasant surprise. Which was not a given as the quality of the saga dropped while the number of episodes increased after 3 releases in 2006.
However, the French public will have to wait until October 25th to find out for sure and find out if this new film is as impressive and unbearable as people say.
The 16-year-old ban that applies to Kevin Graetert’s film at least gives us the first clue. Just like the director told this funny story NME.
Alerted by neighbors, alarmed by the noises they heard, the Los Angeles police went to the home of first assistant editor Steve Forney… only to find that the latter was working on one of the film’s sequences. and that no one was in danger. except for the screen.
“There was a knock on the door”– says Kevin Greutert. “We see the police going up to the entrance thanks to the camera footage, Steve Forney is answering them and they’re saying, ‘Neighbors called us and told us someone was being tortured to death in here.’
With screams and shouts
Which, to some extent, was true: “He said to them, ‘I’m actually just working on a film… can you come in and see if you want?’ .”
Perhaps more so than the film itself. Set between episodes 1 and 2 of the James Wan-initiated saga (hence the return of the late John Jigsaw Kramer, still played by Tobin Bell), Saw X offers its share of twists and turns. And we have to believe that one of them is particularly impressive, just in terms of sound.
