Al-Hilal striker Neymar achieved a victory in court this Wednesday (4). This is because the Court of Rio de Janeiro has granted an injunction suspending the environmental sanctions imposed on the player due to the construction of an artificial lake in the AeroRural condominium, on Rio’s Costa Verde.
The decision in favor of the player was made by Judge Richard Robert Fairclough, of the Mangaratiba District Single Court. The municipality, in fact, fined the player 16 million reals for having built the lake. He appealed the decision last month and has now received a positive response.
In the text of Fairclough’s decision, the judge said the decision in favor of the player came after noting that sanctions had been applied to Neymar disproportionately.
Going to court, Neymar’s lawyers warned of errors in the classification of the case which resulted in him being fined. Furthermore, the player acted in good faith by turning the concrete lake into a swimming pool.
Indeed, Neymar’s defense even claimed that the trial was held frivolously and without evidence. The player also underlined the great exposure of the case, with wide publicity of the values.
“The investigations were conceived due to the spectacular media attention given to the case, due exclusively to the involvement of Neymar, who is a world-famous athlete, as it is clear that a simple renovation of a swimming pool would not be capable of such an outcome . a fine from the municipal body, without any concrete proof”.
