This section of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has always raised eyebrows among fans of the magical saga since the discovery of the film in 2002! In its final installment, Chris Columbus’ feature film makes a specific choice that, according to J.K. According to many fans of Rowling’s book, it went too far.
The scene features Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs) and Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and the tension may have been pushed a little too far by the director and his screenwriter Steve Kloves.
Harry Malfoy trolls
While leaving Albus Dumbledore’s office, Harry visits Lucius Malfoy to return Tom Riddle’s diary that belonged to him. The latter clearly denies the facts and hands the book to his house elf Dobby, who is also present.
Lucius lied!

Except Harry was hiding the sock in the newspaper. Dobby takes the magazine and the socks in it from the owner, and is officially released from the Malfoy family’s service. For if a wizard gives his elf a piece of clothing, he sets him free. So Lucius, without his knowledge, dismissed his servant.
I know this destiny…

Malfoy, enraged to discover that he has lost his ‘servant’, rushes towards Harry with his wand and launches ‘Avada Kedavra’, an infamous spell that instantly kills anyone who falls victim to it!
But Dobby is here

“You will not hurt Harry Potter!” Seeing that Lucius is ready to kill Harry Potter with this deadly and evil spell, Dobby pushes the former Death Eater, who falls heavily to the ground several meters back.
threat

Lucius, angry at being rejected by a house-elf, and betrayed by a resentful child who happens to be from a family he hates more than anything else, makes a dire threat to Harry, promising that one day he will suffer the same fate as his dead parents.
Harry doesn’t break down

Faced with this dire threat, Harry looks at him with resolve, suggesting that he will resist when the time comes (which is later confirmed).
Why is this inconsistent?

If many fans have reacted to this scene in the film, it’s because it’s completely incongruous that a wizard as good as Lucius Malfoy would risk unleashing deadly magic at Hogwarts. In the middle of the school, with Albus Dumbledore literally a door away, surrounded by other very good wizards and as many students as they could hold him.
Dobby is free!

In the book, the scene is very similar, but Lucius just rushes towards Harry and Dobby pushes him back. He gets up and waves his wand, but changes his mind and doesn’t start the Avada Kedavra spell at all. We later learn that Lucius has been kicked out of the school’s board of directors.
A version that is still less clear than the feature film.
