Marvel: Catherine Deneuve as a superhero? It’s crazy, but it’s true!

This is the most unusual news of the week: Catherine Deneuve will make her debut in Marvel! If this announcement comes as a surprise, it’s not the French actor or actress’ first foray into the MCU.

Of course, there’s Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy. Omar Sy played the mutant Lucas Bishop in X-Men: Days of Future Past. And Gaspar Ulliel last appeared on the small screen in the TV series Moon Knight, playing the intriguing Anton Mogart.

We also remember Julie Delph, who played Madame B – the ruthless coach of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) before she became Black Widow – in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Elodie Jung stepped into the shoes of Elektra in the Netflix series Daredevil. And soon Tahar Rahim will again play an unknown role in Madame Web opposite Dakota Johnson.

But don’t expect to see Catherine Deneuve in the picture! Neither on the big screen nor on the small screen. The French icon – currently cast as Bernadette – joins the Marvel adventure via Audible Original creation Marvel’s Wastelanders. Along with Steffy Selma, she voices the new opus of the audio series, which focuses on the character of Black Widow.

Here is the synopsis: “Almost thirty years after Victory Day (also known as V-Day), Helen Black (Catherine Deneuve) moves into her new apartment at L’Onar, a 161-story apartment complex that once stood in midtown Manhattan.

Owned and operated by the US Secret Service’s SHIELD, this property has become the epitome of dystopian wealth and inequality that has plagued New York since V-Day.

Various wealthy families, including media mogul Burj, occupy the luxury DecaDomes penthouses, the top ten floors of L’Onar. Helen Black’s apartment is located in the “100 block”, on a much more modest floor.

When her nosy neighbor Dr. Brian Mizuno asks Helen (with paper-thin walls) what brought her here, she vaguely mentions “ex issues…”.

On the day of Helen’s move, Lisa Cartwright takes her position as an Assistant Home Security Analyst at Panopticog Solutions, a private security company commissioned by SHIELD to monitor the residents of Onari – at their expense, unknowingly.

Lisa’s task is to track down the section of Bloc Cent where Helen Black resides, who quickly realizes that she is not at all what she claims to be…

This new opus marks Season 3 of the Marvel’s Wastelanders audio series, following Jose Garcia and Antoine de Caunes for Season 1 of Marvel’s Wastelanders: Star-Lord, then Olivier Marshall and Assa Sylla for Season 2 of Marvel’s Wastelanders: Hawekeye.

In the American version of the podcast, another famous actor voices this new version of the black character. An actor Catherine Deneuve knows very well since they shared a poster in Tony Scott’s first movie, The Predators. It is, of course, Susan Sarandon.

A total of six seasons are planned for Marvel’s Wastelanders audio series on Audible. Originally released in English in June 2021, it was written by Benjamin Percy and directed by Kimberly Senior.
