The Exorcist: The Devoted is leading the US box office

The Exorcist: The Devoted, a reboot of the 1973 horror classic, has finally arrived in American theaters. Released on Friday (6), the film grossed $27.2 million in its first weekend, reaching the top of the box office and PAW Patrol 2: a movie with superpowers in second place ($11,750), but below projections of $30 million.

Rounding out the weekend box office podium in the United States is Saw, which raised another $8.1 million. Also in the Top 10 is the relaunch of Abracadabra, a 1990s Disney film starring Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker. The title, which returned to the big screen to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, managed to raise 1.5 million dollars.

Reactions to the new The Exorcist

Despite the protagonist role in the premiere, expected due to fans’ anticipation for the new film, The Exorcist: The Devoted not only did it fall short of its opening projections, but it also didn’t achieve the critical success expected.

According to reviews released on Friday, they didn’t like the new sequel, making the mistake of trying to repeat the “recipe” of the original. Check it out here!
