Cities in SP are submerged after heavy rain; Caieiras declares calamity


Municipalities suffered numerous losses due to floods




The heavy rain that hit the metropolitan region of São Paulo on the night of this Sunday 8th and in the early hours of Monday 9th, left a trail of destruction in Franco da Rocha, Caieiras and Diadema. Cars were submerged and roads were impassable due to the high volume of water. The landslides left residents homeless.

The town hall of Franco da Rocha informed the Earth that more than 10 roads were completely flooded, especially in the central region. The residents were stuck and were rescued by the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection. There are no reports of injuries in the city.

On Pacaembu Avenue there was a recording of a house sliding. “I was in the landslide at the time, but the family is fine. I’m glad there were no casualties. The road here turned into a river during the rain,” a resident told Good morning Saint Paulfrom TVGlobo.

Landslides also occurred in Avenida da Saudade, with the collapse of part of the wall of the municipal cemetery, and in Konrad Adenauer street, in a house. A landslide occurred in São Carlos street; and Rua Lucas Vieira where a house was hit. There were no casualties. Three homeless people were treated at the municipality’s Casa de Passagem.

The Profª Jannette Tennório Assumpção Municipal School of Basic Education, in Jardim Progresso, suspended lessons due to mud entering the classrooms.

According to Franco da Rocha’s Civil Protection, in the last 72 hours it has rained as much as expected for the entire month of October.

Caieiras

In Caieiras, roads in the central region were also flooded. At the Municipal Theater the flood water left the chairs submerged.



The rain in Caieiras has left the city in a state of calamity

The Municipality of Caieiras, through the Civil Protection, has issued a public disaster decree, due to the continuous rains that have hit the municipality since the early hours of Sunday evening, the city is in a state of alert.

According to a statement from the city hall, the rainfall volumes recorded by the National Center for Monitoring and Warning of Natural Disasters (Cemaden) are exceptional and record for the city during this period.

The decree serves to protect residents and also as a tool for residents of the city of Caieiras to request the withdrawal of the FGTS due to a public disaster.

Diadem

In Diadema two people died after the car they were traveling in fell into a stream. According to what the Military Police reported to TV Globo, a team was called this morning at 2am to respond to the occurrence of a rollover accident in a stream in the Parque Ecológico region, on the Estrada do Alvarenga.

The vehicle was found submerged and the victims were rescued and transported to the Diadema emergency room. The two did not resist. The identities of the victims were not released.
