However, according to tiktoker videos with the profile @karolaineeg, tiktokers from Sao Paulo have decided to fight who is the best NPC in an offline space. In line, they received money from passers-by, deposited in ballot boxes, in exchange for their repetitive gestures. From the scenery in the background, this would have happened in the free space of the Masp (São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand Art Museum).

Pinky Doll is one of the pioneers of Lives NPC and has already become an Internet celebrity.

The exact origin of the new trend is uncertain, but the Japanese TikToker who owns the profile @natuecoco is considered the first to gain popularity through NPC videos. His cosplay style, featuring outfits related to Japanese pop culture characters, has already gained more than a million followers on the platform.

Also riding the wave is the account Cherry Crush (@cherrycrush_tv), an American content creator known for her ASMR channel, a sort of relaxing video, on YouTube. On TikTok, her most popular videos have over a million views.

The Pinky Doll profile (@pinkydollreal) is one of the most popular. Her slogan “ice cream so good” is repeated ad nauseam by influencer Fedha Sinon in lives with thousands of viewers.

In September, some creators received a notification from TikTok stating that there was a restriction on NPC lives.

“Your live stream cannot be recommended and will be restricted to search results because it may contain content that manipulates user engagement, as followed by next. This is in line with the For You feed suitability standards [com conteúdo sugerido por algoritmo] per our Community Guidelines,” the notice reads.

Contacted by Byte at the time, TikTok did not elaborate on the matter and issued a note saying that “all content posted on TikTok, including live broadcasts, must comply with the Community Guidelines.”
