Sérvio highlighted the local fans and the passion of the South Americans
In an interview with the Hungarian website Sportal, Serbian Novak Djokovic, world number 1, said he wanted to compete in tournaments taking place in South America due to the “passion” shown by the fans.
When asked where he would like to play, the Serbian said: “Tournaments in South America. I was talking to Charlie (Carlos Gomes) and I hope we can do that. It’s a wish I have. Of course, now the Slams are my priority and perhaps the opportunity will present itself when I play these tournaments,” he stressed that he has never competed on the South American clay court tour, which currently includes the ATPs in Córdoba, Buenos Aires, Santiago and the Rio Open.
“Somehow, the passion of South Americans for sport, and therefore for tennis, is something unique and I want to experience it week after week by playing these competitions. Well, we’ll see. Maybe in a distant future, since I have time, I’m young,” added Djokovic, who played an exhibition match in Brazil against Gustavo Kuerten in 2012 and competed at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and fell in the first round.
